Curriculum

Our test-prep curriculum covers content, strategy, and time-management techniques. We include thousands of sample test questions.

Each student receives an extensive set of materials: Workbooks, worksheets, practice tests, math and grammar packets, vocabulary flash cards and lists, and essay writing guidelines and samples.

Customized Lesson Plans

Before the program begins, students take a diagnostic test that provides us with a baseline score and allows us to develop a customized lesson plan.

Test Content

Students gain a thorough understanding of the content of the test and all the academic concepts being tested.

SAT/ACT

  • In math, students cover all mathematical concepts up to and including Algebra II and Trigonometry.
  • In reading, students learn valuable reading comprehension skills and build vocabulary.
  • In the SAT Writing/ACT English instruction, students build a solid foundation of English grammar usage, valuable not only for the SAT/ACT but also for English classes and essay writing.

ISEE/SSAT

  • In math, students cover arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • In reading, students learn valuable reading comprehension skills and build vocabulary.
  • In the ISEE/SSAT verbal section, students build their vocabulary and apply their skills in exercises involving synonyms (ISEE and SSAT), sentence completion (ISEE), and analogies (SSAT). Students learn how to respond to essay prompts with appropriate content and format, and how to apply these skills in a timed environment.

A personal homework assignment is set at the end of every session, to be completed before the next meeting.

Practice testing allows the tutor to identify areas of weakness and tailor lesson plans to meet the student’s individual needs.

SAT Subject Tests

SAT Subject Tests are multiple-choice standardized tests given on individual subjects. They can enhance a student’s credentials for admission to college in the United States.
A student may take up to three SAT subject tests on any given date. However, most subject tests are offered on the same day as the SAT Reasoning Test. Therefore students cannot take SAT subject tests and the SAT Reasoning Test on the same day.

Test-Taking Strategies

Test-taking strategies are an integral part of our tutoring program. Students learn valuable skills essential for maximizing scores, with a focus on:

  • How to recognize and approach each category of question
  • Which questions might best be avoided or left until last
  • Which questions might be left unanswered (SSAT only)

Time-Management Techniques

Time-management techniques are an important tool in these fast-paced tests. Students learn essential skills to avoid running out of time.

Additional Support

In addition to our complete test preparation program, we accommodate students who need extra help in a specific area of the test.

An intensive refresher course is available for students who wish to retake the test.
